Secrets of Hogwarts

This is the first in a series of secrets about Hogwarts that you wouldn't know unless you stumbled upon them. I will try to go into as much detail about each place as possible, so in case you ever come across, or go looking for, these things, you will be prepared, although there might be a few I don't suggest you go looking for. When these come up, I will make sure to tell you.

If any readers know more facts about the place I cover, feel free to owl it to us at the Daily Prophet.

Fourth Corridor Room

There is a room, an abandoned classroom, in a fourth floor corridor near the Ravenclaw tower that has a few unnameable ghosts haunting it. Different from other Hogwarts ghosts, these ghosts are trapped in the room and usually are only visible during a few hours in the morning, which is why very few people, whether students or professors, know of it.

The room has been unused since 1543, when a witch turned crazy during a charms class. The witch, sixteen year old Natasha Jordina, is believed to have drunk a mis-brewed shrinking potion during the class before charms, as deducted from records kept of the potions lesson plans for that week. Five of the students died, three were injured, eight got away free of injury, and Jordina was sent to a hospital ward in the States, as no others were able to treat her. She never recovered, and died four years later in a secluded area of the hospital.

Since this incident, it has been illegal for a student or professor to test a student-made potion unless it has been safety approved by a Potions Master who has been approved by the Ministry of Magic.

It is also rumored that those who were killed that day were part of a dark curse, cast by Jordina, causing it to be impossible to say or write their names, which caused much problem when their funerals were being planned, hence calling them unnameable ghosts. There has only been about 20 known unnameable ghosts in history, so we can assume that the curse was extremely dark.

The unnameable ghosts, as already mentioned, are trapped in the room and only appear during certain hours of the day. They do not appear every day, as proved by our study in which they appeared for 9 of the 14 days we were there, but we could find no pattern to their appearance.

The ghosts did not appear to notice us in the room with them, so we are unsure if they are the actual ghosts of those students who died or just projectiles. The ghosts interacted with each other as the normal Hogwarts ghosts would, and do not appear to be reenacting an event of their time. In fact, they appear to be in some sort of social gathering, as one of find at a party, and we have found no events that have repeated themselves.

These ghosts, and the room itself, appears to be safe. We have found no traces of dark magic left in the room, and the ghosts seem to be harmless, unable to have any contact with anyone but themselves. The only downside to these ghosts is that they appear at only certain times, and we are unable to figure out a pattern.
